Brenda Lugo de Catalá is former employee at the Autoridad de Energía Eléctrica (Puerto Rico Electric Power Authority). She is now retired and lives with her family in their home in Yauco. Brenda Lugo lives in Yauco, a small mountain town in the south of Puerto Rico. In this interview, Brenda speaks about how Hurricane María impacted her family and community. While acknowledging the extent of the destruction and suffering caused by the Hurricane, Brenda also speaks about how families and communities were brought closer together as a result of the destruction caused by the hurricane and of the life lessons they learned. She also tells the story of her sister-in-law, Cecilia Catalá, a doctor who was swept by the current and almost died trying to make it home after her shift at a hospital on September 20.
