Los niños de María follows the lives of several children in the aftermath of Hurricane María, which hit Puerto Rico on September 20, 2017. It is a film that captures the trauma of living through the hurricane, the emotional and material impact on families, and the work of recovery–all from the perspective of children. Above all, the film explores the central role of children in the process of reconstruction and how their leadership will impact the future for years to come.
This film will be of interest to students of Spanish, Latin American/Caribbean, Latina/o Studies, Gender, Africana, and American Studies, Psychology, Economics, Sociology, History, Anthropology, Environment and Sustainability, among many other fields.
This event is part of the Listening to Puerto Rico project, which seeks to raise awareness about the condition of Puerto Rico post-Hurricane Maria, as well as to promote solidarity through action. It is co-sponsored by the Department of Romance Languages and Literatures, Institute for Latino Studies, ISLA, and the Center for Social Concerns.
