Raúl Ayala is a renowned Puerto Rican artist and musician, and one of the leading members of the Ballet Folklórico Los Hermanos Ayala, founded by his father, Castor Ayala. He is also well known for continuing his father’s legacy of producing “caretas de vejigante” (vejigante masks) out of coconut, which are used in Loíza carnival (The Feast of St. James).
