Dr. Iván Figueroa Díaz is a physician in San Juan. Dr. Figueroa was very active with the local community following the hurricane. In the first conversation with Will, Dr. Figueroa discusses the days and weeks following the hurricane and describes Puerto Rico’s public health and medical crisis that is still ongoing today. After this conversation was over, Dr. Figueroa offered to take the University of Michigan team on a driving tour of the surrounding area, where he further described the public health failures following the storm. Specifically, he drove our team to a non-descript parking lot where idling trailers are housing unprocessed casualties from the hurricane.
